Collaboration between Operation Better Block, Inc. (OBB) and the Homewood-Brushton YMCA, Bridge to Benefits (B2B) is a program designed to link financially struggling families to public benefits and services, utilizing community organizers from OBB and staff from the Homewood Family Support Center and East Side Community Collaborative at the YMCA to enroll qualifying households.
Some examples of public benefits include:
- Low-Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
- Food Stamps
- Child Care Subsidy
- Medical Assistance
- Earnd Income Credit (EIC)
- Property Tax & Rent Rebate
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Emergency Assistance
Every year, millions of Americans are deprived of basic necessities because they are not receiving all the benefits that are available to them. Bridge to Befefits was created to help any Homewood reseidnts to complete the requisite processes needed to receive critical services needed such as housing vouchers, nutritional assistance, social security, medicaid and disability insurance. This program helps to idenitfy, educate, qualify, and enroll financially struggling families to recieve public benefits.
The overarching goal is to help residents access available services and benefits and avert financial crisis, while moving toward financial stability and self-sufficiency.
